I need to share this quote from Ted Sorensen’s interview in the New York Times earlier this year:
Interviewer: “What do you make of Hillary’s comment that Obama’s promises and speeches are “just words”?”
Ted Sorensen: “Kennedy’s rhetoric when he was president turned out to be a key to his success. His mere words about Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba helped resolve the worst crisis the world has ever known without the U.S. having to fire a shot.”
Ted Sorensen was JFK’s speechwriter, and is now a wise old man.
Marguerite, the fact that’s Obama moves you with his words is telling enough. You think up concrete manifestations of our common ideal that he manages to articulate. And you’re definitely not the only one.
