Yesterday was my first day of paying attention, writing down all my activities with a direct carbon impact on the environment. Not so easy. I kept forgetting. Not remembering to reset the miles counter to keep track of my driving. Flushing the toilet, before I had even time to think. Leaving the green bags in my car. I am on automatic pilot most of the times. Forty some years are hard to undo.
I also realized I need to take into account my whole environmental impact, including water usage, non recycled plastics, food eaten or thrown out, garbage, and purchases. Not just direct carbon producing activities. Carbon Conscious is the wrong word. Maybe Impact Conscious instead? I need more time to set my experiment correctly. I am thinking visual documentation needs to also be a part of this.
In the mean time, I am making mine this old slogan from the drought days, ‘If it’s yellow let it mellow; when it’s brown flush it down.’ I tried it today, and it’s working. 🙂
