I was quite surprised after I returned from vacation, and found my vegetable patch, all replenished with new heads of lettuce. Could it be, I asked Prad? Yes, it’s true, you can keep on tearing off leaves and they grow back.
Nature is truly Mother to us. No need to waste our paychecks on industrially grown salads, at the grocery store. Instead, better splurge on a few seeds and help with a bit of water every day. I’ve got my own salad factory in the backyard.
I love my garden and am so thankful for it and it’s daily wonder. My salad garden is doing TOO well! We can’t eat as fast as it produces. Next time I will have to really space the timing of my seeding so they don’t all come up at once.
[…] 21, 2008 by lamarguerite Lately, I have been discovering the joy of wandering in my new garden, plucking at the plum trees, and the tomato vines, and harvesting some lettuce for our dinners. And […]
This post inspired me tonight, to dine as a vegetarian.
Thanks = I welcome this kind of influence.
I like Carleigh’s comment about learning to plan for abundance and the auto-gen link to “My mama’s garden” is cool, too.
While enjoying my supper I began composing this:

Gardens yield good food.
Substance yields good metaphors.
Let’s cultivate memes!

Marguerite, I could use your help in addressing a meme-cultivating challenge I’m confronting. Sometimes, via this blog and elsewhere, I encounter the use of the words “masses” and “leaders” in ways that confuse me.
And then I let myself get frustrated because I don’t know how to get clear of the confusion = I don’t know how to express clarity about the meaning of such words in terms of the reality I perceive as currently emerging.
Anyhow, this has been bugging me for several weeks and I’d appreciate an opportunity to explore this if you can find time/space here on your blog. (Caveat = I’m a slow blog-poster; in case you hadn’t already noticed.)
BTW, I’ve got a lovely picture in my home of my Mom’s garden. It was painted about 40 years ago by a neighbor and given to our family as a gift.
May the force be with you,
paul

[…] August 3, 2008 by lamarguerite Faced with rising food prices, and shrinking wallets, citizens are becoming increasingly resourceful. Sunday’s Washington Post has an article on the unprecedented growth of home gardening in America. A $20 return in produce, for every dollar spent on seeds, is a hard number to ignore. Even I, whose nature did not bless with a green thumb, discovered the marvel of the homegrown vegetable patch. […]
