A few weeks ago, when I wrote The Environment Is Politics, I really meant it. My thoughts have been a lot on Sarah Palin, and how to best expose who she is, and what that could mean for our country, if she became the next Vice President, or even worse, President of the United States.
In case you are wondering, what has kept me busy, lately, here it is:
Please pass along to all your friends. http://whatssarahthinking.com.
Already discovered it on Stumble Upon. ๐ ๐
I thought it would only be an undercover job… I was wrong.
Anyway, it is a very funny blog and I recommend it !
(the bad thing on this blog being the fact that I can’t comment on it… )
Hi Marguerite and all,
I’ve been a bit busy rambling about lately (physically, and in mind). Saw Bob Dylan last night. A man with a very wise and important message (even if he often doesn’t admit it).
I’m trying to figure out how I can help express my great enthusiasm for Obama. And, I agree that someone should shed light on the views of JM and SP. “Drill, drill, drill”? As people used to say, “gag me with a spoon.” It is hard for me to understand how idiotic some of our politicians have become. How has it happened? How did the press allow it to happen? How do WE allow it to happen?
Anyhow, as usual, great job Marguerite.
Cheers! (from Santa Barbara)
In a representative democracy like we have here, our elected officials are supposed to represent our views and opinions. Anytime I see people like McCain or Palin, so blatantly anti-environment, I just remember that in order to become an elected official, they have to represent the people. In America, unfortunately, that means a part of the population wants to “drill, drill, drill.” Almost makes you want to move to France, eh? ๐
heh heheheh. oh dear ๐
One of the depressing things that comes across from reading US green blogs is how partisan the green debate appears to be in the US. It so shouldn’t be – and, it seems to me, by making it so party political half the voting US public is immediately alienated from confronting the issue.
Also, I fear for us – some of the rhetoric I hear about Palin reminds me of Thatcher – something I touch on here:

How can we get the environmental debate out of party politics in the US?
Simon, I appreciate your comment. At the same time, let us look squarely at the situation, and there is no disputing Palin’s horrific environmental record. Besides, she is clueless about economics and foreing policy, and that her personal ethics are highly questionable. Gender and partisanship have nothing to do with it.
At the same time, she is an archetype middle America can relate to, which makes her candidature a highly dangerous situation for our future, and the world future. I do not underestimate her power to seduce the crowds.
No problem – it’s all true. But am I right that green issues are party political in the US? If so, how can this be overcome?
Simon : it is also the case elsewhere. Environmental issues are most of the time (to my humble knowledge) a political issue.
The green party, the left and right wing will have different views… The bad thing being that each party will have different views on the environment, even if they shouldn’t.
This is even more the case in the United States. One party wants to address environmental issues, the other one doesn’t seem to care… which is a big mistake as the environment should be everybody’s concerns.
tomorrow I will publish an article on sustainable development which should clarify my view.
keep up the good work all, me I am on my way to finding a new job and starting a new life…
Actually, for a while, there was the hope that John McCain, too was a pro-environment candidate. He understands the issues. Unfortunately, he is a hostage from his party, and the special fossil fuel interests that control it. Now, with the Palin addition, it has become even more hopeless.
Yeah he seemed to be quite a nice fellow on environmental issues.
But now with Palin – who doesn’t even believe that climate change is man-made – it’s… yeah, hopeless, it’s the right word for this kind of situation.
