Amsterdam Picnic ’07 Green Challenge winner is the QBox. A real beauty, that may soon, make all the Green Wannabes, look like ubergreenies. It automatically programs all your appliances for minimal energy usage. That’s the main thing for me, but it also has a whole bunch of other cool features. Check it out!

There is some advantage to not having access to the comfort of modern appliances. In our Paris appartment, I still have not figured out how to use the wash machine. The dryer appears to be even more of a mystery. One unforeseen consequence has been how little dirty laundry we have generated as a result. Back home, I cannot even count the number of loads we go through in a week. There, the temptation is just too great, knowing that doing laundry is as simple as: 1) drop some detergent, 2) dump the dirty clothes, 3) press the start button.

The flickering light caught my eye as I lay in bed waiting to fall asleep. The light of my electric toothbrush being charged. Unplugging appliances, big and small? I am still very casual about this whole plugging and unplugging business. It takes some effort, and most often I don’t want to be bothered, especially with such small things.
